Carr Judicial Center (1300 Broadway\, Denver\, CO 80203) for a Three-Day Training Workshop. \nThis workshop will equip you with: \n\n\n\nA framework for grounding parent defense in the constitution and other federal law.\nAn introduction to the basics of child welfare law.\nA better understanding of the court process and laws that apply to parent representation.\nKnowledge of the complexities RPC often encounter in dependency and neglect cases.\nBest practices for incorporating equity\, transparency\, and antiracism into your practice.\nSkills for how to be an ethical family defender.\n\n\n\nWhen you participate in this workshop\, you’ll join a community of justice and equity-focused advocates who fight to protect and preserve families. \nWhat to Expect \n\nDay 1: Reframing Parent Rights as Civil Rights. All experience levels. We’ll cover the essentials of child welfare law\, in particular how to meaningfully bring the Constitution into family court. We will also examine the principles of the parent/defender dynamic and engage with individuals with lived experience.\nDays 2 and 3: Child Welfare Law: Introductory level. These days will focus on  child welfare law\, building community\, and extra practice. We’ll also discuss common issues that RPC are likely to encounter in practice.\n\nWho Should Attend \n\nAll new RPC are expected to join this workshop at least once. New and existing ORPC social workers\, family advocates\, and parent advocates will benefit from learning the grounding principles of family defense and how to better support parents.\n\nExisting RPC are strongly encouraged to attend.
