HB23-1024 Relative and Kinship Placement Bill
Families in Colorado are celebrating the signing of a bill today that aims to place children being taken from their home with relatives, instead of foster care. The bill also puts restrictions on how early a foster family can intervene in the court case when a parent is at risk of losing their parental rights.
Carter Thornton spent the first 3 years of his life in foster care while his parents Alicia and Fred fought for him in court. The couple now has their son back, and today they were together as a reunified family at the Governor’s mansion, as the bill was signed into law.
